Today we shall visit Oudtshoorn, a town synonamous with the Cango Caves and ostrich farms. There are several historic monuments in the area. The fascinating sandstone buildings built at the beginning of the previous century by ostrich farmers were dubbed the "ostrich" palaces. A trip to the mountainous surroundings is a must for any nature lover. Visit a Local Reptile Park and a Cheetah breeding station. Enjoy a panoramic drive through the countryside.
Join us at the famous Featherbed Nature Reserve for a four-hour nature experience. We shall depart for Featherbed on the John Benn ferry. The lagoon and the amphi-theatre of mountains that surround Knysna have caused many to fall in love with the town. Enjoy the quiet beauty of evergreen forests and the majestic beauty of the Heads. Knysna is beauty in abundance. We shall enjoy lunch at the Featherbed Farm before we return to our ferry. In the late afternoon we shall visit one of the splendid beaches, such as Buffalo Bay.
Tsitsikamma National Park is on the schedule today. Experience 100 km of coastal beauty. The magnificent Tsitsikamma forests attract visitors for hiking, cycling, horse riding and exploring. These forests used to be a source of wood for the timber industry that was once the lifeblood of this picturesque park. The park promises an experience of bird and marine life, indigenous forests, fynbos and many rivers. There are still artists and craftsmen in this area who work with dedication to produce some of the finest furniture in the country.
Today we shall take a steam locomotive train ride on the Outeniqua ChooTjoe to Knysna along one of the most scenic routes of our country. If you prefer, you may choose to accompany us on a breathtaking mountain drive over the historical Montagu Pass.
